Intensive Arabic Course
CEFREPA organized two intensive Arabic courses in January 2024 for two levels, B2 and C1. For each level, there were standard Arabic courses, Gulf dialect courses and courses in the history of the Arabian Peninsula and Arab civilization. These internships offered the students who participated a total immersion in the Arabic language and culture for 60 hours, in addition to cultural visits and educational activities organized by CEFREPA.
40 students from different universities in Europe and France, majority from INALCO, universities of Rennes 2, Aix-Marseille, Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3, ENS Lyon & Sciences Po in addition to other European universities (Geneva, Vienna, and Napoli) participated in both Intensive Arabic Language Training Courses level B2 & C1 throughout the whole month of January 2024.
Intensive specialized language and cultural training courses on the contemporary Gulf were organized by CEFREPA in partnership with INALCO. The first course for level B2 took place from January 7 to 16, 2024 and the second (level C1) took place from January 21 to 30, 2024.
The Standard Arabic courses were accompanied by courses in Gulf dialect and a course in Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Geopolitics, Archaeological and Artistic heritage). These intensive courses took place over one month at the Center in Kuwait City.
During the month of January, a series of visits to DAI library, Bait Al Arab, Tarek Rajab museum, Failaka Island… and also meetings with Kuwaiti personalities and university and research frameworks were also organized.
Both intensive courses organized by INALCO and CEFREPA were specialized linguistic and cultural trainings on the contemporary Gulf. Standard Arabic courses were accompanied by immersions and practices in Gulf dialect and human and social sciences courses (history, geopolitics, archaeological and artistic heritage).
It was intended for trainees (master’s students, doctoral students, researchers, professionals from French businesses and administrations in the region) who have already acquired level B1 & B2. Each intensive course took place over 10 days with a total of 60 hours of lessons on the CEFREPA-Kuwait site. During the duration of the training, the course reproduced a thorough immersion in the Arabic language.
A lecture with Mr. Khaled Al Rasheed on the history of Kuwait was given to a group of students participating in the arabic language course, level C1.

This training, which included 15 candidates who had already acquired level B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), was a complete success. The intensive course took place over two weeks at the Center in Kuwait City.
During these two weeks, a series of visits and meetings with Kuwaiti personalities and university and research frameworks were also organized.
The interns visited Kuwait University in Shadadiya and introduced themselves to the Dean of the University Dr. Abdullah AlHajeri and other personalities of the University among others Dr. Mohammad Alwuhaib, Director of the Department of Philosophy and Dr. Moncef Al Khmeri, Director of the Department of French Language.
Dr. Taleb Alrefai visited CEFREPA and met with the trainees. A discussion about the Arabic language and its novel writing was held during this visit.
Born in Kuwait in 1958, Taleb ALREFAI is a civil engineer. He worked in this field for several years, before joining the National Council of Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) as an advisor. Parallel to this professional career, he began a literary activity in the mid-seventies as a short story writer and novelist, in addition to other scientific works in the history of Kuwait and literary writing techniques.
A lecture given by Dr. Youssef Albader (The Public Authority for Applied Education & Training) with the participation of Dr. Jenan Ben Salamah (researcher in computational linguistics in the Kuwaiti language) on the Kuwaiti dialect and its documentation in foreign sources took place in the presence of the trainees
An interview was held in Arabic on the ATV KW television channel with Dr. Jenan Ben Salamah and the interns who described in Arabic their stay and experience during these two weeks in Kuwait.
