KANHOUSH Yasmin

Yasmin Kanhoush is a researcher and archaeologist specializing in building archaeology. Her expertise lies in vernacular buildings of the Bronze Age in the Near East, particularly the Northern Levant. Dr. Kanhoush’s research focuses on highlighting the architectural characteristics of these buildings, employing a multifaceted approach that considers technical aspects, typology, functionality, spatial organization, and social context.
Currently, Dr. Kanhoush is the Deputy Director and Scientific Supervisor of the “Al-Ula Cultural Oasis Project” (UCOP). This project, led by Archaïos, steered by the French Agency for the Development of AlUla (AFALULA) and conducted in close partnership with the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU).
Within this role, Dr. Kanhoush manages various archaeological teams, ensuring their progress and involvement in defining mission objectives and methodologies for the Archaeological Survey. She oversees the proper collection and improved recording of field data within a database. Additionally, she guarantees the quality of architectural analyses and the establishment of typologies for the diverse buildings and architectural heritage features identified across the oasis. This comprehensive study will ultimately define the architectural characteristics and history of Al-Ula’s vernacular buildings, promoting and enhancing this unique cultural heritage.
